Registering to Vote
In order to be eligible to vote in Macoupin County, you must register. The
County Clerk’s Office processes all voter registration applications for
Macoupin County residents.
You can also help up maintain accurate up-to-date records by notifying us
via e-mail if you know of an immediate family member who has moved out of
Macoupin County or is now deceased.

Who Can Register to Vote?
You may register to vote if you are:
• A U.S. citizen and
• 18 years of age by the date of the next election and
• a resident at your current Macoupin County address for 30 days immediately
prior to the next election.
Two forms of identification are required when registering with a deputy
registrar.
• At least one of the two forms must show your current name and address.
• Only one form of identification may be a piece of mail postmarked within
the past 30 days which has been addressed and delivered to you.
• Acceptable forms of identification include, but are not limited to the
following:

Where Can I Register to Vote?
You may register to vote in person:
• at the Macoupin County Clerk’s Office, 201 E. Main, Carlinville (217)
854-3214
• at a Secretary of State Driver’s License Facility while applying for or
updating your Driver’s License or State ID card
• with a Deputy Registrar appointed by the County Clerk
You may register to vote by mail:
Under federal law, citizens may apply to register to vote by mailing in an
Illinois Voter Registration Application. The mail-in form must be postmarked
by the last day to register to vote before an election.
If I Changed My Address, How Do I Update My Voter Registration?
How to update your voter information
If you are currently registered to vote in Macoupin County and have moved
within Macoupin County, you can update your voter registration information
with the County Clerk in the following manner.
• Complete the reverse side of your Voter Registration Identification card
and mail it to the Macoupin County Clerk’s Office.
• Complete the Voter Registration Change of Address (On-Line Form) and your
information will be sent directly to the Voter Registration Department.
Changes of address must be received in the County Clerk’s Office no later
than 28 days before an election. If you are sending it via the U.S. Postal
Service it must be postmarked by the 28th day before an election.
If you are no longer a resident of Macoupin County, you must re-register
with the election authority in the county where you currently live.
If I Changed My Name, How Do I Update My Voter Registration?
If you changed your name and address, you must re-register to vote. A woman
who continues to use her maiden name after marriage may vote without having
to complete an affidavit if registered under her maiden name.
If you changed your name and still reside in the same election precinct, you
may vote at your current Macoupin County polling place after completing an
affidavit there.
