Frequently Asked Questions

Macoupin County residents may not know what office to call or where to go to have their concerns addressed. Most county offices are located in the Macoupin County Courthouse located at 201 E. Main in Carlinville, IL, unless otherwise indicated. The Courthouse is a secured building and all visitors are required to pass through metal detectors. The only entrance open to the public is on ground level on the north-west corner of the building.

Q: HOW DO I FIND OUT THE NAME OF THE OWNER OF A PARTICULAR PROPERTY?

A: The Assessment Office maintains the property assessment roll, which lists the assessee (normally the property owner). The roll may be inspected by the public at the main office.

Q: I WANT TO OPEN A BUSINESS. HOW DO I FILE FOR A FICTITIOUS NAME STATEMENT AND A BUSINESS LICENSE?

A: You must obtain a fictitious name statement (commonly known as a DBA) from the County Clerk’s Office.
